I used to dread flight changes until I realized the best way to modify your itinerary is to do it within 24 hours of booking. I recently caught a massive typo in my destination while booking a flight to Miami, and since I caught it early, I changed it on the American app for free!
If you're past that 24-hour window, don't panic. American eliminated change fees for most Main Cabin and Premium fares for domestic and some international trips. However, if you booked Basic Economy, they are much stricter—usually, those can't be changed at all. I always recommend checking "My Trips" on their site to see your specific options.
