Hello,

I need help recovering my device ESP32-S3 N16R8 AI 1.28-inch Round LCD Box.

Here is what happened step by step:

  1. The device was working originally with the stock XiaoZhi firmware.
  2. I attempted to flash a different ESP32-S3 firmware (not made specifically for this board).
  3. After flashing, the screen stayed black and the device stopped booting normally.
  4. The device is still detected by Windows as COM6, so USB is alive.
  5. Using serial tools, I consistently get the message: “The filesystem appears to be corrupted. Perform factory reprogramming of MicroPython firmware (completely erase flash, followed by firmware programming).”
  6. I downloaded and used ESP32S3 Flash Download Tool v3.9.5 (SPI Download mode).
  7. However, when I try ERASE or START, the tool gets stuck at Connecting...... and never progresses.
  8. I tried: Holding the BOOT button during power-up BOOT + RESET combinations Different baud rates (115200 and 9600) Reconnecting USB and restarting the PC
  9. The tool opens the COM port but the ESP32-S3 does not enter ROM bootloader mode.

At this point, I believe:

  • The flash contents are corrupted
  • The board needs a full chip erase and factory firmware reflash
  • But I cannot reliably force the device into download/bootloader mode

Could you please help with:

  • The exact BOOT/RESET procedure for this board
  • Confirmation of which button is GPIO0 (BOOT)
  • Or an official recovery method / tool / firmware combination for this situation

Thank you very much for your support.

Best regards.

hello,

The development board does not support flashing other firmware, as the screen driver and other components are different. The BOOT button is located to the right of the Type-C port. You can try pressing and holding the BOOT button while powering on to flash the firmware. The tutorial provides the factory firmware.
