I found out the hard way that "free" depends on timing! I booked a flight and realized ten minutes later I’d picked the wrong date. Luckily, Etihad has a 24-hour grace period for direct bookings where you can cancel for free. After that, unless you have a "Deluxe" or "First" ticket, they usually take a cut. It’s the best way to modify a mistake without losing money.
