SIM8202G-M2 can not connect to 5G networks Raspberry Pi 5G DONGLE Expansion Board

2024-04-02 16:39:48 Ask

I have downloaded the update file and updated the module I have .

But I guess there is a problem .

After update I am unable to connect to 5G networks.

Also in windows the data class doesn’t show that 5G is supported.

Previous to the update the device used to show as below

Manufacturer:  Microsoft
Model: Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter
Firmware:           SDX55.LE.1.4.r1-00056-NBOOT.CPE
Network type:   3GPP
Data class:           UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, LTE, 5G,
IMEI:     861164060093285

Post update the device shows

Manufacturer:  Qualcomm
Model: 0
Firmware:           MPSS.HI.2.5-01229-SDX55_CPEALL_
Network type:   3GPP
Data class:           GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, LTE
IMEI:     861164060093285

As you can see the 5G data class is missing. The version of firmware was LE14B03SIM8202M44A-M2.

See if you can help me by providing the version  LE13B04SIM8202M44A-M2 of the firmware or even a older version where 5G data class is supported.

This situation might be due to unsuccessful network registration. Follow these steps for troubleshooting:

1】 First, check for hardware issues:

  • ] Ensure the SIM card works for calls and internet in devices like phones. Try SIM cards from different carriers to exclude band issues.
  • ] Check if the antenna is properly connected.
  • ] If the NET light is blinking, it's not registered to the network.

2】Once hardware is confirmed OK, use the following commands (AT LOG) to further check the network situation and screenshot for analysis:

  • ] For firmware version: AT+SIMCOMATI
  • ] Check SIM card contact: AT+CPIN?
  • ] Turn on RF (disable airplane mode): AT+CFUN=1
  • ] Set network mode to automatic: AT+CNMP=2
  • ] Signal quality: AT+CSQ
  • ] Network registration: AT+CGREG?
  • ] Connection status: AT+CPSI?
  • ] Check APN matches carrier: AT+CGDCONT?
  • ] Carrier access: AT+COPS?

We've identified the issue as a firmware problem. It turns out the firmware provided by SIMCOM was missing the qmbn file.

All firmware flashing should include this file. Below is the complete firmware that has now been supplemented.

Dear Sir,

I have updated the firmware to the latest you sent me. Now I am not able to even connect to LTE

In the network and internet setting the modem says its turned off

In the APN setting there is no APN but I cannot add one

In the AT Commands everything looks ok with airplane mode

1】You need to restore the previously backed-up qcn file, as mentioned in the tutorial.

If you forgot to back up the APN, you can use the APN provided in the attachment.

2】You must correctly configure the APN to register to the corresponding network mode:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","Your_APN"
